John,

Just days after Hurricane Ida wreaked devastation from the Gulf Coast to New York City, President Biden announced that his administration would begin leasing more than 125,000 square miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico for oil and gas drilling. And that's in addition to hundreds of thousands of more acres of public lands being drilled onshore.

Recent months have shown we are in a climate emergency, but rather than doing everything possible to prevent further climate devastation, Biden is doing the exact opposite. His decision is a rubber stamp that would allow the oil and gas industry to continue business as usual, and lock us into decades of more pollution and greenhouse gases.

To stop climate chaos we need to stop oil and gas drilling on public lands and waters, and halt the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure. Tell President Biden: We need urgent climate action, NOT more oil and gas drilling.

Oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico causes devastating pollution. This throws ecosystems out of balance and threatens coastal communities and wildlife. It’s time to protect the Gulf of Mexico, our communities and our environment instead of allowing Big Oil & Gas to continue putting them all at risk.

President Biden and his administration want you to believe we can stop runaway climate change without immediately stopping the expansion of fossil fuel production and infrastructure. An administration that took office promising to end fracking on public lands has approved thousands of new drilling permits and is paving the way for thousands more. They can’t have it both ways.

Join us in urging President Biden to stop the expansion of fossil fuel production and infrastructure.

We Need Climate Action Now!

Food & Water Action is fighting for real climate solutions because we recognize the urgency of this fight for our planet. We no longer have the luxury of time when it comes to fighting climate change. Together, we can take on the fossil fuel industry, ban fracking everywhere (including on public lands) and halt new fossil fuel infrastructure — the things fueling climate chaos. Send a message to President Biden now: We demand urgent climate action to avert climate disaster.
