Students Take Over and Lead Postgame Prayer After School District Warns Teachers Not To

By: Bruce Hausknecht

The tradition of postgame prayer after Friday night high school football games runs deep in the Bible Belt. Even in public schools. So, when a local school district in Putnam County, Tennessee, responding to complaints from an out-of-state secularist organization, told its coaches and other employees they could not lead students in prayer, the fans and students took over.

The result was a postgame prayer scene you have to see to believe.

Upperman High School was scheduled to play Stone Memorial High School on Friday, September 17. Ahead of that game, however, the school district received a letter from Washington, D.C.-based Americans United for Separation of Church and State admonishing the district for “several instances of prayer and proselytizing at events at Cookeville and Upperman high schools.”

In response, the district instructed its employees — including teachers, staff and coaches — that they were not allowed to lead students in prayer. Americans United celebrated by claiming “A great WIN for [Church-State] Separation!” on Twitter.

America’s Longest Living Married Couple Celebrates 86 Years Together

By: Bruce Hausknecht

Ralph and Dorothy Kohler got married in Tekamah, Nebraska, in 1935. He was 18 years old, and she was 17. He is now 104 and she is 103. They’re still together and recently celebrated their 86th wedding anniversary on September 16 at their home in Indio, California.

That makes them America’s oldest living married couple.

They almost didn’t make it to the altar. Their first attempt to get hitched was unsuccessful, as a court official who believed they were too young, denied them a marriage license. They simply went elsewhere, exchanged vows, and the rest, as they say, is history.

How have they stayed together all these years?

“Togetherness,” Ralph told KESQ in Thousand Palms, California.

Ralph credits a willingness by each of them to compromise. For example, he loved clay target shooting, while she loved ballroom dancing. So, each took up the other’s hobby so they could participate together. That led to numerous awards for the couple from competitions all over the United States in both trapshooting as well as dancing.

Did they ever fight?

“A sharp word once in a while, maybe, but it didn’t last,” Ralph said.

Texas Governor Signs More Pro-Life Legislation into Law

By: Zachary Mettler

If there was a competition for most pro-life state in the Union, Texas would certainly be in the running.

On September 1, 2021, Texas became the first state to successfully prohibit abortions pre-viability for the first time since the Supreme Court decreed abortions to be legalized nationwide in Roe v. Wade in 1973.

Now, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has signed another pro-life bill into law.

Texas Senate Bill 4 (S.B. 4) regulates the use of the medication that causes a chemical abortion, also referred to as the abortion pill. The abortion pill is actually two drugs given days apart, mifepristone and misoprostol, that essentially cause an early miscarriage.

The bill imposes several requirements on the use of the abortion pill.

First, it prohibits any abortionist from prescribing a woman the abortion pill after her preborn baby reaches seven weeks gestation.

It also restricts the use of telemedicine as a way for abortionists to prescribe the abortion pill. This practice began during the COVID-19 pandemic, after pro-abortion groups sued the U.S. Food and Drug Administration over its rule that the first dose of the abortion pill (mifepristone) must be provided in person.

What You Should Know About ‘The Facebook Files’ — An Investigative Report from ‘The Wall Street Journal’

By: Jeff Johnston

The Wall Street Journal has published a lengthy series, called “The Facebook Files,” which sheds a damning light on Facebook practices that allow sex traffickers and drug cartels on the social media platform. The Journal also asserts that the company treats celebrities and politicians differently from average users and that the company knows its Instagram app is psychologically damaging for many teen girls.

After reviewing internal company documents, The Journal reported:

Time and again, the documents show, in the U.S. and overseas, Facebook’s own researchers have identified the platform’s ill effects, in areas including teen mental health, political discourse and human trafficking. Time and again, despite congressional hearings, its own pledges and numerous media exposes, the company didn’t fix them.

The documents included “research reports, online employee discussions and drafts of presentations to senior management, including Mr. Zuckerberg.” The Journal accused Facebook of knowing about serious issues – and providing “misleading or partial answers” to politicians and regulators, “masking how much it knows.”

The Surprising Christian Inspiration Behind “The Game of
Life”

By: Paul Batura

It’s likely you’ve never heard of Reuben Klamer, the Ohio-born inventor and entrepreneur credited with being the mastermind behind the “Game of Life” — the ubiquitous board game that’s been a staple of family entertainment since 1960.

Mr. Klamer, who died on September 14th at the age of 99, manufactured and sold the hula hoop with Art Linkletter, in addition to designing hundreds of other toys. But it was the 3D board game featuring plastic bridges, cars with pink and blue sticks and the quest for success for which the intrepid and enterprising businessman was best known.

With over 70 million copies sold in 59 countries, the “Game of Life” is the second-bestselling board game of all time, next to “Monopoly.”

But if Reuben Klamer had gotten his way, it may never have been.

It was the late 1950s when Klamer, a former advertising man and marketer, pitched the idea for an art kit for children to the Milton Bradley Company. His idea was rejected — but they asked him to come up with a board game to help celebrate the company’s upcoming 100th birthday in 1960.
