Big news: Pramila just voted to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act through the House, advancing an urgent proposal that guarantees abortion as the right that it is.
After Texas passed the most restrictive abortion law in the country and the Supreme Court let the cruel ban go into effect, Democrats needed to act. And thanks to our organizing, the House just did exactly that. But the Senate filibuster remains a dangerous roadblock to abortion rights in America.
Democrats in the Senate have the power to end the filibuster right now, pass this critical legislation, and ensure people across the country have the right to a safe, accessible abortion. And they must.
As one of the one in four women across America who have had an abortion, Pramila reminds us that terminating her pregnancy was not an easy choice — but it was her choice. That is what we need to preserve for every pregnant person across the country, and the Women’s Health Protection Act would make it happen.
This bill codifies the right to abortion care and the right of health care professionals to provide abortion care, free from unnecessary, punitive restrictions. It would also create a safeguard against abortion bans and medically unnecessary restrictions.
Senate Democrats MUST pass this bill not only to respond to the Texas law but to put an end to decades of efforts to repeal Roe v. Wade. It’s especially urgent as other states like Florida are moving quickly to pass similar bans. We can’t waste any more time: End the filibuster and pass laws to protect abortion rights, voting rights, the environment, and more.
