** There's an energy crisis brewing across the pond
------------------------------------------------------------
The Spectator ([link removed]) (9/24/21) reports: "Britain is caught in an energy crisis of the government’s own making. It is true that gas prices have spiked all over the world — but Britain is suffering more than most. Energy suppliers are going out of business, thanks to the government’s price cap. Even fertiliser companies are going bust, with serious knock-on effects for the food industry: the British Meat Processors Association says shortages could hit within a fortnight. The trigger for this crisis has been the sudden surge in demand for gas as the global economy recovers from the Covid lockdowns. Gas prices have doubled in the United States, for example. In Britain, however, prices are five times higher. Why? Because America exploited fracking technology and
capitalised on its huge inland gas reserves. Britain passed up the fracking opportunity, in spite of vast reserves found in Lancashire and Yorkshire. We are living with the consequences."

** "We feel a deep sense of responsibility here in the state of California because of the smash-mouth realities of climate change."

Anything to keep out the poors, amirite?!

** 10 News San Diego ([link removed])
(9/22/21) reports: "Hookups for gas appliances like stoves, furnaces and water heaters could be banned from homes and buildings going up in Encinitas. On Wednesday, the City Council will consider an ordinance that would require nearly all new construction in the city to be all electric. In other words, developers would not be allowed to include natural gas hookups, meaning appliances such as stoves, furnaces and water heaters would have to be electric. It would be the city's latest move in its effort to curb greenhouse gas emissions. 'Every little bit counts and that's what's important here,' said Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear. 'We are trying to move off of our dependence on oil in all ways.'"

What was that you were saying about Russian assets?

** Real Clear Energy ([link removed])
(9/23/21) reports: "Suddenly, Russia is the number two oil importer to the U.S. behind only Canada. The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports that U.S. imports of oil and refined petroleum products from Russia increased by 23% in May to 844,000 barrels a day from the prior month. There is no natural process of osmosis at work here. America is more reliant on Russian oil than it was just a few months ago under Trump because of deliberate public decisions made under Biden that put America last. In January, Biden canceled the Keystone XL pipeline, which would have pumped vital oil resources from Canada into the U.S. He then proceeded to withdraw the sanctions the Trump administration put in place enabling Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline to transfer natural gas to Germany without navigating its way through Ukraine."

Refusing to use our energy resources doesn't count as "stewardship"

** Bloomberg ([link removed])
(9/23/21) reports: "Interior Secretary Deb Haaland suggested a sharply limited role for fossil fuel extraction on U.S. federal lands and waters in her most expansive comments yet on the administration’s overhaul of oil and gas leasing. Meanwhile, the number of permits the agency issued for oil and gas drilling in mostly western federal lands has declined to 171 in August from 671 in April."

The sword, it has two edges.

** San Diego Union-Tribune ([link removed])
(6/1/21) reports: "Opponents of a 600-acre solar and battery storage project poised to be built in the East County desert town of Jacumba Hot Springs have filed a lawsuit in San Diego Superior Court, looking to get the project stopped in its tracks. A group of residents that includes local business owners filed the 45-page suit against the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, who approved the project in a 5-0 vote last month, and the JVR Energy Park, the project to be developed by Bay Wa r.e., an international renewable energy company. The suit alleges the Board of Supervisors violated the California Environmental Quality Act and the county’s own planning and zoning laws when it gave the project the OK."
