Dear John

After we had to cancel it last year, I’m thrilled to announce that the Brooklyn PTA Fun Run for Public Schools is back on for this fall!

Registration is open ([link removed]) for the 13th Annual Brooklyn PTA Fun Run to be held on Saturday, October 23rd at the LeFrak Center (i.e. the skating rink) in Prospect Park. The 3.3 mile run will start at 10 AM on the main park drive just outside LeFrak. Bib pickup and pre-race activities will begin at 9 AM inside near the skating arena.

You can participate as an individual, a family, or with a school team. You can run to compete for one of the best times, or you can stroll leisurely with friends. Either way you’ll be supporting our public schools in one of their greatest times of need. Register now for the Fun Run here ([link removed]) .

In 2019, the last year we were able to hold the Fun Run, over 60 schools participated in this charitable event including over 1,000 participants, and together we raised nearly $25,000 to support Brooklyn schools. But this event has become much more than a fundraiser. For over a decade now, the PTA Fun Run has demonstrated the tremendous strength of our local public school communities. Parents, students, and educators have turned out in droves to show what it means to build community, and work together on critical issues facing all of our public schools.

This year will be even more special as we celebrate school reopening and our ability to gather once again as friends and neighbors after so many months of trauma and isolation. And the funds raised will go to our neediest schools, schools such as PS 124 -- a small school with a small budget that serves a large number of high-need learners residing in the two family shelters next door on 4th Avenue.

We will be there rain or shine (although probably not if there is lightning or other dangerous conditions). And if you cannot be there, you can still visit the registration site ([link removed]) to make a donation to support our schools.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge our sponsors whose generous support helps make this event possible-- the PS 58 PTA for volunteering to serve as our fiscal sponsor, as well as Assemblymember Bobby Carroll, New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, Whole Foods Market Third and 3rd and The New York Apple Association, Park Slope Copy & Digital, Row House Williamsburg, The Chocolate Room, and The LeFrak Center at Lakeside.

So please, join me, our friends and neighbors on October 23rd to spend what will hopefully be a beautiful fall morning in Prospect Park in support of our public schools. It’s a great cause, a wonderful chance to reconnect with each other, and a start to recovering those special rituals that have seemed lost for far too long.

If you have any questions about the Fun Run please reach out to Lara Lai in my office at 718-499-1090 or [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .

I can’t wait to see you there!

Brad
