Dear Subscriber,

Frequent heat waves, heavy rainstorms and rising sea levels are all effects of climate change in our city. This year has been a testament to that: we experienced a winter season that dumped above average snowfalls and this summer saw multiple heat waves and tropical storms that broke records and led to deaths of over a dozen New Yorkers.

During NYC's Climate Week, we are rising to the challenge and have won a competitive national matching grant to increase our climate change and environmental reporting. We need your help to reach $5,000 by Sept. 28

Our Report for America reporter Liz Donovan, has previously worked as a Global Migration Project fellow with Columbia Journalism Investigations and on the climate desk at Agence France-Presse in Paris. She currently teaches summers for The School of The New York Times and, during the school year, she volunteers as a mentor for a teen journalist through Girls Write Now.

Our RFA corps member has been recently reporting for us on heat conditions inside Rikers Island and the lack of transparency from the City's Department of Correction (DOC) around how the agency failed to ensure the safety of inmates in its more restrictive housing units during multiple heat waves this past summer.

Will you contribute today? We only have four days left to reach $5,000.
Yes, I'll support your RFA reporter today!
Contributions from our members will directly help us cost the expenses of hosting our RFA corps member.

Best,

Jeanmarie Evelly
