Dearest Comrades,
What a wild two weeks! The campaign to get No Eviction Without Representation (NEWR) has ended. This month's business meeting concluded with a wonderful pizza hang in Cheesman Park featuring regional organizer Glenn - our special guest from national! AND we have new campaigns launching! Take a look below.
CHAPTER ANNOUNCEMENTS & UPCOMING EVENTS
The October Social & Future Hybrid Meetings:
The October social is quite close! Details are still in the works, but we will be meeting at Garland Park again on October 9th starting at 2pm until sunset around 630pm. Future socials and business meetings will be planned further out to open up more location reservations.
We are working to implement hybrid business meetings as the weather gets cooler and will be starting a discussion soon on the development of best practices for the chapter for meeting indoors as it becomes more and more difficult to continue to meet outside. Thank you all so much for your patience as we all learn to navigate the pandemic processes and its fluctuations throughout this time.
Membership Turnout and Engagement
Hi all, it’s Greg, your fundraising chair. As I brought up at the last business meeting, we are in need of folks to help us resuscitate the turnout infrastructure for our chapter. I’ve already heard from many who are interested in helping to fulfill this ask; if you are interested in helping us make phone calls or send texts to connect with your comrades, please reach out at [email protected]. We will be meeting in the next couple of weeks to chat about how we think this project should take form and have a couple of current campaigns for which we can test some ideas out.
🌹 DSA Orientation
Next meeting: Wednesday, September 29th & Oct 13th | 7:00 - 8:30 PM Join us here for the 29th and here for Oct 13th
New member? Been around but not sure what's new? Find out how to get plugged in here!
🌹 Eco-Socialist Committee
Next meeting: Monday, September 27th & Oct 4th| 7:00 - 8:00 PM Join us here!
We're replacing our next meeting with a "Teach-In" and letter-writing-party led by Ren-Caspar Smith - a Sierra Club organizer and all around badass - who will present on how we can come together to impact Xcel's Energy Plan! This plan drives Xcel's work for the next ten years and it is critical we get them to swiftly abandon coal and natural gas in favor of wind and solar. Also, a big THANK YOU to everyone who signed the Green New Deal for Public Schools petition. We gathered over 100 signatures and let Representative DeGette, Senator Bennett and Senator Hickenlooper know that we expect them to pass the bill as part of the infrastructure negotiations. We're now in talks with Hickenlooper's staffers to push him to publicly endorse the bill. Get involved! Email us here: [email protected]
🌹 Abolition Working GroupNext meeting: Abolition WG will be meeting on Zoom on Sunday evenings (7:00-8:00pm)
The Abolition Working Group is seeking volunteers for the "Let's Do Our Best" campaign in opposition to Initiative 303 on the November 2, 2021 Denver ballot.
This ballot initiative is classist, pro-surveillance, and would put the City of Denver at substantial legal risk. This ballot initiative would not guarantee a single additional unit of shelter, but it would further limit the ability of Denver's homeless to seek emergency shelter in-place. Additionally, this initiative would create an avenue for citizens to sue the City of Denver if it does not enforce the "urban camping ban" within 72-hours of a resident-initiated complaint. We are looking for volunteers to help us defeat Initiative 303. Please email
[email protected] to get involved.
🌹 Electoral Committee Meeting/Social Hour
Next meeting: Monday, October 4th | 6:00 - 7:00 PM Join us here!
There are 6 weeks remaining in the campaign to elect our chapter-endorsed-candidate for Aurora City Council, Bryan Lindstrom! If you are interested in getting plugged into the campaign please join the whatsapp group. There are canvases to join every weekend with the next opportunity this upcoming Saturday (9/25) and Sunday (9/26) at Highline Park at 10am. The chapter will also be hosting some canvases the weekend of October 9 & 10th at 10am and 2pm respectively. If you want to get involved right now there's no reason to wait! You can get started knocking doors and making phone calls for the Aurora Majority Project and help us to secure the first Democratic Majority in Aurora City Council's history - and secure much needed support for Councilors Marcano and Coombs.
🌹 NEWR Fundraising & Signature Gathering Canvass
Next meeting: Monday, September 20th | 7:00 - 8:00 PM
Join us here!
The campaign to get No Eviction Without Representation onto Denver’s ballot ended on Monday with over 13,000 signatures submitted to the Denver Elections office for November 2022. The final push over the last couple of weeks saw more & more canvassers hit the streets to provide NEWR with a healthy cushion of signatures needed in anticipation of some being removed as they go through the counting process. We will know in the coming weeks whether NEWR met the required threshold. Congrats to everyone who helped with NEWR for a job well done towards housing justice in our fair city. Stay tuned for updates on the campaign to get NEWR passed.
🌹 {Newly Minted} Palestine Working Group (#wg-palestine on Slack)
Next meeting: Wednesday, October 6th | 6:00 - 7:00 PM Join us here!

🌹 Housing Justice Committee
Next meeting: Wednesday, October 6th | 7:00 - 8:00 PM Join us here!
The Housing Justice Committee is partnering with the Covid 19 Eviction Defense Project
to coordinate emergency outreach and aid responses to the coming wave
of evictions as CDC protections expire. If you will have some spare time
in September and want to help mitigate the crisis, please email Wren at
[email protected]!
🌹 Steering Committee Meeting
Next meeting: Monday, October 4th | 6:00 - 7:00 PM Join us here!
Our chapter's Steering Committee meets every 2nd and 4th Monday to help guide the chapter at large and promote cohesion between committees and working groups.
