John,

Did you see the news?

Macabre Video of Fake Trump Shooting Media and Critics Is Shown at His Resort
—The New York Times, 10/14/19

The first word that came to mind when I heard about this video was “unbelievable,” but then I paused and realized, it’s anything but. This is the same President who has repeatedly incited violence at his rallies. The same President who once said he could “shoot someone on 5th Avenue” and still be elected.

Let’s be clear, whether or not President Trump condemns this video, it was inspired by his own violent and hateful rhetoric.

He’s “joked” about shooting immigrants. He’s encouraged his supporters to “knock the crap out of” protestors. He’s said he longed for the "old days" when dissenters would be "carried out on stretchers." That’s why his supporters found it fitting to depict him carrying out a mass shooting and massacring his critics and political opponents. John, enough is enough. The President must put an end to hate-filled speech. It fans the flames of political division, and it emboldens hate-filled people to act.

We’re sending a message to the White House tomorrow, and we’d like to add your name. It’s important that we’re all on record at this moment in history: Violence has no place in our democracy. The President must put an end to spewing hate and encouraging violence. In a country with easy access to guns, the consequences are especially deadly.
