Story of how money can corrupt

A lot of people have tried to stop me from running

Establishment messengers have told me: “start small, wait your turn, you’re too bold, run for city council or board of education.”

But I’m. Not. Listening.
I'm running because the future of our planet, and my son’s future, can only be addressed by massive federal action. Last year, the IPCC climate change report said we need to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030 at the latest. But the entrenched democrat I’m running against, Frank Pallone, responded to it by coming out with a measure that aims to achieve net-zero by 2050. It will allow new investments in fossil fuels for the next thirty years. It would also be too late. According to Australian climate scientists, Frank Pallone's plan won't save human civilization. At that moment, I realized the person meant to protect my interests and my family, was actually one of the greatest threats to the health of my family and our planet. It was at that moment that I realized I would have to give up everything to get him out of office.
Frank Pallone, like other incumbent Democrats, constantly play this game of “Climate Minimalism.” They pretend like they are for serious change, while they actually oppose any serious change. Frank Pallone loves to tout his environmental record. But, the money corrupts. Frank has taken the dirty money of the fossil fuel industry. And he does the bare minimum for appearances, a show, a masquerade, that he is protecting the environment, but he is truly doing the bidding of the corporations that fund him.
We need to end the pollution economy. I thought my representative, a Democrat, would understand the same. We’re here now, we have a climate crisis now, because of his failures over thirty years. But it turns out when he was asked to reject fossil fuel money, he said no. I specifically asked Frank if he would stop taking fossil fuel money for his re-election campaign at his town hall. He said NO, he would still take the big oil money. But the money influences him. That’s why he said no to the Green New Deal and no to saving the planet. That’s why he pretends to care (because he knows our shoreline district needs to save our tourism industry), but in reality he is one of the people to blame for the situation we’re in. In this cycle alone, he’s taken over $100,000 from the fossil fuel industry, and nearly $1 million over the course of his career. We cannot trust someone who takes money from the biggest polluters, to protect our family and our planet from the endless greed of the fossil fuel companies. He has proven that he won’t do it.
The incumbent Democrat that I’m challenging, will single handedly have the power to block the Green New Deal from ever occurring, because he chairs the Energy and Commerce Committee and can make sure no Green New Deal ever makes it out of his committee for a vote. In fact, he shut down AOC’s climate change subcommittee earlier this year. In fact, he’s proposed a half measure of his own, that is a handout to the fossil fuel companies and will invest in natural gas for 30 years.
Of course, running for congress does include hard work. Everytime when I leave to go meet voters, now my two-year old son argues with me and says, “No Dada, stay.” It tears my heart out when I tell him “Daddy has to get to work.” These are reminders that I’m doing this for him. Doing this so he can have a future. And I cannot. Stop. This. Fight. It will all be worth it, with your support.
That’s why I’ve publicly pledged to never, ever, take a dime of fossil fuel money (or other corporate money). Because we need to transition our energy from pollution, to one of green energy solutions. We need to elect better Democrats. Democrats that are willing to fight for clean air, pure water, our homes, our families. Democrats that are willing to stand up to the powerful corporations that govern our lives.
We raised $12,000 last quarter, we have over twenty volunteers, and we only need 25,000 votes to win the primaries in a SAFE BLUE District! We can elect better Democrats. We CAN have a Green New Deal. And we CAN have Medicare for All!
