As the senator from our nation's lowest-lying state, I understand the existential threat that climate change poses. I also believe, like President Biden, that climate change creates an opportunity: a chance for us to create new, good-paying jobs.

That's just what the Civilian Climate Corps (CCC) is all about, and I'm proud to be leading efforts to make the CCC a reality.

The CCC would be implemented largely through AmeriCorps and prioritize projects that invest in clean and renewable energy, advance equity and environmental justice, and help our country mitigate the effects of climate change.

The extreme weather patterns of the past month have proven once again how critical the issue of climate change is. We must address it head-on and through multiple avenues. I believe the CCC is a critical tool we must utilize in this fight.
