Dr. Alan Braid -- the Texas doctor who bravely defied our state’s new abortion ban -- is being sued in two separate lawsuits for performing an abortion illegally.
He admitted to performing the abortion in a Washington Post column and that he was motivated by a “duty of care.”
“I have daughters, granddaughters and nieces. I believe abortion is an essential part of health care. I have spent the past 50 years treating and helping patients. I can’t just sit back and watch us return to 1972.” —Dr. Alan Braid
Dr. Braid is taking a personal risk -- but it’s something he believes in strongly. He said that in his practice, a woman confides that she is having the abortion because she has been raped.
Texas’s new law makes no exceptions for rape or incest.
