For decades, our nation has been silenced as Congress makes critical
decisions regarding our military intervention and our American foreign
policy without the people's approval. Our country has entered into an
endless war in Syria and lost countless lives through military policy
driven by profits and destruction.

This needs to end now. That's why I've introduced an amendment to the
National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to prohibit U.S. military
presence in Syria without Congressional approval within one year of
enactment.

This amendment would bring our presence in Syria to a congressional vote,
and would be an urgent reaffirmation of the war powers granted to

wants their voice heard in American foreign policy can have their voice

John, I support
an end to this endless war — which first began by targeting ISIS and now
has seen our military slip into dangerous confrontations that has put our
troops' lives at exponential risk.

It's also critical that we address the serious human cost that our
military actions continue to cause in international communities. The U.S.
occupation of Syria has played a direct role in the food crisis that has
left 12.4 million Syrians — nearly 60% of the population — food insecure.

Innocent civilians and troops should not be put into harm's way without
explicit authorization by Congress that allows constituents to know where
their representative stands on the issue and — in turn — gives them a
chance to be heard.
