Happy Fall from our CIRC AF Team! CIRC and CIRC Action Fund have been very active supporting CLLARO’s efforts and advocating for Colorado’s redistricting commission to improve its preliminary maps to better represent immigrants and communities of color. Some of our directly impacted members from the South and Western Slope provided testimony at the commission's public hearings.
On September 15th, a series of new maps were released. Some quick facts around the Congressional map:
Getting involved in redistricting work is crucial for CIRC Action Fund. It not only ensures that communities of color will be better represented, but it will also allow them to run for office more easily in the future. Join us at Cheluna Brewery on October 7th to learn about the work we’ve done and meet some local candidates running for office. Tickets are $10 and include two free drinks!
We have just launched our voter engagement activities for the municipal elections in Aurora and Commerce City. With our current budget, we aim to contact over 100,000 voters, but we are hoping to scale our operations to contact over 200,000 voters. We are currently carrying out our endorsement interviews and hope to make these public at our Endorsement Party
Over the years, CIRC Action Fund has continuously invested in municipal elections because it allows us to invest in local leaders, empowering young immigrant and BIPOC community leaders to step into elected office for the first time. Oftentimes, these leaders continue to represent their communities’ interest in public office over the long-term and beyond city council. This is what a stronger and truer democracy looks like.
All proceeds from this event will go towards supporting our 2021 electoral activities. Make sure to invite your family and friends! March For Citizenship
Join us September 25 for a historic March for Citizenship to demand justice for all immigrants! We will gather at Viking Park in Denver at 11 am and march to Auraria Campus where we will have a rally at 1 pm with speakers and performances. We will be demanding that Congress pass the Reconciliation Bill to give millions of undocumented people citizenship, vote NO on any amendments that harm our community by creating bars to access citizenship, and continue to fight for citizenship for ALL undocumented people.
We are hoping to bring thousands to this march and we need your help to do so! First Parliamentarian Ruling
On August 10th, Democrats in Congress passed a proposal that included $107B to fund a path to citizenship for millions in a new reconciliation package. With immigration bills stalled in the Senate due to Republican opposition, reconciliation (which would only require the support of Democrats in order to pass) has been our most viable option for immigration reform so far. However, on September 19th, the Senate Parliamentarian ruled against including the legalization of millions of immigrants through budget reconciliation. While it is unacceptable that an unelected staff attorney for the Senate is able to block this proposal to create pathways to citizenship, there are other avenues and tools at our disposal to win permanent protections this year. Democrats must fulfill their promise to our communities and help us achieve citizenship this year. Senator Bennett Met With Colorado Farmworkers
On September 2nd, CIRC coordinated a visit from U.S. Senator Bennet to the Buena Vida Farm to hear from Northern Colorado farmworkers. He listened to their testimonies and demands. These farmworkers shared about their experiences, their families' struggles, and their dreams. CIRC Action Fund is a 501(c)4 tax-exempt nonprofit organization that relies on the support of donors to push their work forward. Join our community of supporters!
