In Memory
John S. Carroll
(December 18, 1929 - September 19, 2021)

Dear Friends,

We have lost a great patriot and devoted Republican.
John Carroll passed away Sunday morning at Tripler Army Medical Center.  He was 91.

John dedicated his life to serving our country and the state of Hawai'i

He came to Hawai’i when it was still a territory, on a football scholarship to the University of Hawai'i at Hilo,  graduated from UH Manoa and earned a law degree from St. Mary’s University in Texas.

John then joined the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War; served as Judge Advocate (JAG) for both the Army and the Air Force, and would go on in the Air Force to become a Fighter Pilot and rise to the rank of Colonel.

Once out of military service John Carroll flew for Hawaiian Airlines and eventually opened his own law firm in downtown Honolulu.  Somewhere along the line he turned his attention to politics, and was elected to the Hawaii State House of Representatives from 1971 - 1979 and held a State Senate seat from 1979 - 1981.

He ran a number of campaigns in the days since, most recently a bid for Honolulu Mayor in 2020.

I knew him as a gregarious man, one whose presence in a room never went unnoticed.

He is survived by his six children and 11 grandchildren.

With Sympathy,

Signe Godfrey
