I’ve always said, if you’re not in Washington to help people, you should pack up and go home.

That seems like a low bar, right? 

Wrong. The halls of Congress are full of Republicans beholden to corporations, deep-pocketed donors and special interest lobbyists. 

This corruption—this deep rot—has overtaken Washington.

Think about it: When big polluters want to block changes to our nation’s environmental laws, they pour money into our elections to ensure their members of Congress turn a blind eye to climate change. The story is the same with the gun lobby. Insurance and drug companies. The list goes on.

The only answer is to get big, unaccountable money out of our elections, and put power back in the hands of the people.

That starts with passing the Freedom to Vote Act. You may have heard that this legislation improves ballot access for millions of Americans and combats the voter suppression laws that have swept the country. 

But it also puts a stop to dark money and limits the influence of special interest money in politics. It is an essential first step in our fight against corruption.
