John,
Don't miss this chance to talk to Democratic senators at the Capitol about
the importance of our freedom to vote. [ [link removed] ]Sign up now to engage with
senators outside at the Capitol this week. With Republicans expected once
again to block transformational voting rights reform in the Senate, we
need Democrats to use their power to eliminate the Jim Crow filibuster in
order to protect our multiracial democracy, which is under attack by
Republicans all over the country. That's where we come in: we can use our
proximity to Capitol Hill to approach senators and ask them to take action
to defend our democracy.
We have an opportunity to speak up for the millions of people who can't
get to Washington, D.C. [ [link removed] ]Let us know when you can come to the Capitol
this week to protect our freedom to vote.

Dear MoveOn member,
Just a few weeks ago, I sat outside the U.S. Capitol and saw scores of
senators going in to vote—everyone from Senator Sanders to Senator Cornyn.
I spotted Senator Warnock of Georgia, a champion of voting rights, and had
the chance to go up to him to thank him on behalf of MoveOn members for
all the work he's done. We've got an incredible opportunity so close to
home to access elected officials from across the country and make some
good trouble. [ [link removed] ]Which is why I'm writing to ask you if you'd join us
outside the Capitol this week to ask Senate Democrats where they stand on
the filibuster.
Freedom to vote. LGBTQ+ nondiscrimination protections. Equal pay. Common
sense gun reforms. Workers' rights.
The House of Representatives has passed legislation for all of these, and
all of them are being blocked by Republicans abusing the filibuster—a Jim
Crow era tool used to block wildly popular bills that would advance the
rights of Americans and to keep the rules rigged against us. But Senate
Democrats have the power to eliminate the filibuster and clear the way for
these important reforms.
That's why MoveOn is working to get Senate Democrats on the record for
abolishing the filibuster and to empower them to pass the reforms we need.
[ [link removed] ]Will you join outside the Capitol this week to ask senators where they
stand? We'll be out there every day, so fill out the form here to let us
know when you are available, and we'll follow up with details.
Democrats have the majority in the Senate with Vice President Harris there
to break ties—yet the filibuster allows a minority of Republicans to
prevent bills from even coming up for a vote. Republicans have shown us
time and time again they have no interest in protecting our freedom to
vote—so Democrats must abolish the filibuster to prevent generations of
damage to come.
The Senate is expected to vote as soon as this week on their new bill, the
Freedom to Vote Act, which would create national standards for voting—such
as mandating 15 days of early voting—and overcoming state-by-state
attacks, including the new draconian Texas restrictions. It has support of
all 50 Senate Democrats but will not become law until the filibuster is
abolished. [ [link removed] ]Join us outdoors on Capitol Hill this week to ask Democrats
to use all of their powers to ensure the Freedom to Vote Act becomes law.
Thanks for all you do.
