During the many months it took Speaker Pelosi to recall her oath of office and seek executive accountability for our criminal president, our campaign to replace her pounded the drum on impeachment. We made the case online, and in the national press, that impeachment has been a constitutional imperative since the first day our criminal president started putting public—your—funds in his pocket.

We’re glad to see the process finally proceed, though we also note grave concerns.

Now that Speaker Pelosi has finally shown up for an impeachment inquiry, she continues to illegitimately limit it.

Declining to include the president's self-enrichment at public expense in the impeachment inquiry doesn't just ignore the issue that would most alarm the president's base. It also resigns the strongest chance of shifting key votes in the Senate. And it invites more corruption from future presidents emboldened by Congress' feckless deference to Trump’s unapologetic demagoguery in the White House.

Speaker Pelosi voiced her reticence to pursue impeachment more than once. It was a whistleblower, and our primary campaign, that rendered her continued refusal untenable.

Yet even though Speaker Pelosi is relying on reports from a whistleblower to pursue impeachment, she continues to marginalize other whistleblowers in the intelligence community. Under her leadership, the House denies them the legal protections available to their colleagues in other federal departments who reveal fraud, waste, and abuse. Pelosi’s rules also deny most Members of Congress access to staff with security clearance, thus precluding even a modicum of legislative oversight outside the often co-opted committee leadership.
