Update on redistricting in Texas
-- proposed state Senate map: released ✅
-- congressional maps: TBD
-- state House map: TBD

We expect the Texas congressional map to drop any day now -- and redistricting experts say Texas is one of the four states to watch in Republicans’ “path to victory” to regain control of the U.S. House.

So far, we’ve only seen a draft state Senate map. It eliminated every competitive district -- and would eliminate voters’ ability to hold legislators accountable. The lines are drawn in a way that would pre-determine which party wins in every district. That’s not democracy, that’s gerrymandering.

The fight for fair maps is heating up. All On The Line is about to launch five-figure advocacy and accountability campaigns in states like Texas. Make a donation to help us hold map drawers accountable.

By packing and cracking cities and surrounding suburbs, Texas Republicans have confirmed what we already knew -- they have no interest in actually representing their constituents. Their only concern is maintaining power, even if it comes at the expense of our democracy.

AOTL President Kelly Burton said: “There’s simply no way for them to add two more GOP seats in Texas without racially gerrymandering based on this census data."

Racial gerrymandering is illegal. But that hasn’t stopped Texas Republicans before. In fact, courts have found that Texas maps have disenfranchised communities of color in every redistricting cycle since the Voting Right Act was passed in 1965.

We cannot let the state legislature that just passed one of the most restrictive voter suppression bills manipulate the Texas state maps without recourse.

We have two more sets of maps in Texas -- and dozens of maps across the country -- on the horizon. Texas and Ohio are proving to be our two biggest fights out of the gate. We need to make sure that map drawers get the message that voters are paying attention and will hold them accountable.
