Thursday at 7 am at the corner of Westlake Avenue N and 9th Ave N (across from Art Marble 21) in Seattle there's a rally to support rank-and-file carpenters who are challenging the no-strike clauses in Project Labor Agreements, their safety concerns, and slow-rising pay. It's been a rough week for building trades. OPCMIA Local 528 lost a sibling, Bryan Phillips (31), at the Convention Center. A strike at the Convention Center or follow-on strikes may be prohibited under these PLA no strike clauses. As a rank and file carpenter put it:
“After 1 week of our own union leaders sabotaging our strike efforts, we’ve finally shown the members where their true loyalties lie. We are never going to win this strike following their directions and picketing bullshit sites. This is why we are taking measures into our own hands. We are going to use our 1st amendment rights under The Constitution to protest all PLAs and sites where “No Strike” agreements have been signed with contractors. Currently 83% of work being done in this region is protected against strikes by PLAs and “No Strike” agreements. 0% of these sites are protected against rallies, marches, and protests.”
