“Seen the arrow on the doorpost
Saying, ‘This land is condemned’
All the way from New Orleans to Jerusalem.”

“Blind Willie McTell” is another track that didn’t make the final cut for Dylan’s 1983 album “Infidels.”  This may be the most shocking omission because as Dylan biographer Clinton Heylin said, the song is “Dylan’s one indisputable masterpiece of the early eighties.”

The version offered on the new “Springtime in New York: The Bootleg Series Vo.16, 1980-1985,” featuring Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor playing slide has been hailed by eminent critic Greil Marcus as “one of Dylan’s greatest songs — or even, perhaps, in the right mood, his greatest recording.” From the first lines of the song, I couldn’t agree more.
