Supporter,
Congress is only weeks—maybe even days—from PASSING legislation that will invest hundreds of billions of dollars to tackle the climate crisis. But that only happens if they pass the sweeping reconciliation bill and defend it against those who want to slash its topline funding.
We need every dollar in the current $3.5 trillion budget bill to meaningfully address the interlocking crises of climate change, racial injustice, economic security, and public health.
We're pulling out all the stops to make this happen: We're driving calls and messages to Congress every day. We worked with coalition partners across the country to mobilize our base and make the thousands of voices heard during the August recess. We're making investments in key states to mount the pressure on targeted legislators.
But that work takes resources—and we still need people from your state to start a monthly membership to get us over the line. The cost of inaction is too high, and we cannot leave anything to chance.
Supporter, help pass this historic budget reconciliation bill to create bold and transformative legislation that invests in climate, jobs, and justice.
Congress has already taken too long on this. For months, anti-environment members have denied, obstructed, and fought to drop vital climate funding and initiatives—while Hurricane Ida, devastating wildfires, record-breaking heat waves, torrential rains, and other climate events have caused immeasurable loss of life and destruction across the country.
And this is all on top of the latest UN IPCC report, which confirmed that we must act swiftly and decisively to preserve our home, our planet. The choices we make now will shape our future and determine what kind of world we leave for future generations. We can and must work together—or face even worsening extreme weather events from runaway carbon pollution.
Even though members of Congress are seeing the impact of climate change in their states and districts—1 in 3 Americans experienced a climate disaster at some point this summer—some are still trying to shrink the size and scope of these investments.
That's why we need strong champions like you. Say you're with us with a monthly membership gift to give us the resources we need to pass this bill and protect our communities >>
We're fighting to replace every lead pipe that delivers drinking water, expand our communities' access to affordable wind and solar power, clean up every abandoned coal mine and leaking gas well, permanently protect the Arctic from drilling, and electrify and upgrade our transportation so we can slash pollution and energy bills at the same time.
The process for winning these bold investments is complicated and the room for error is small. For months they've been telling us this can't be done. But thanks to months of organizing and advocacy, we have a fighting chance to get once-in-a-generation climate action across the finish line. Let's get it done. In this together,
Melinda Pierce
