The extreme weather patterns of the past months have reminded all of us just how urgent the issue of climate change is. From Hurricane Ida to wildfires and heat waves in the West, it's clearer than ever before that the climate crisis is already here.
Climate change is hurting all of us, but not equally. Like so many other issues facing our nation, Black and Brown communities are facing the most severe effects. In Washington State, Tribal Communities are being displaced because of flooding. Across the country, BIPOC and poor communities are more likely to die as a result of pollution than those in wealthier, whiter neighborhoods.
This injustice came about for a lot of reasons -- systemic racism, unequal access to resources, and outdated infrastructure, to name a few. That's one big reason why Congress urgently needs to pass President Biden's plan to Build Back Better.
This plan will invest in all of our communities and pay special attention to communities that have been left behind. It will help America step up to the threat of the climate crisis -- and do so in a way that creates jobs and helps communities. Derek is fighting in Congress to ensure climate resiliency -- against flooding, severe temperatures, wildfires, and more -- is a TOP priority.
We cannot wait any longer to prepare for and mitigate the worst effects of climate change. That's why the Build Back Better agenda addresses them head-on. Will you show your support for this critical effort by adding your name today?
