John,
Did you see what San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin recently did?
It tells us everything we need to know about why this work matters.
This stat in particular blew me out of the water:
According to the Associated Press, the gun manufacturers that Chesa sued — companies like Blackhawk, for example — produced nearly half the guns that were recovered from crime scenes in the past year ALONE. Nearly half.
Let me be clear.
This would not have happened if it weren’t for Chesa being elected as San Francisco’s DA. Real Justice threw down in that race and I’m SO proud of the role all of us played in helping win that election.
We don’t talk about these kinds of wins all the time, in part because so much of our work focuses directly on ending mass incarceration.
But DAs also have the power to hold violent police accountable for their crimes AND crack down on enablers of violence like these ghost gun manufacturers in San Francisco.
This case is a testament to the amount of power that District Attorneys can wield.
Too many of them use that power for evil.
Our movement is electing DAs who use it for GOOD.
And more than ever, we NEED to make sure we can elect EVEN MORE more DAs who will do the same.
Appreciate you,
Shaun
