New Research Makes the American Families Plan an Even Smarter InvestmentEconomists Return to Perry Preschool Project and Find “Dynastic Benefits” of Quality Early Childhood Education

This June, a group of economists including Nobel laureate James Heckman released a working paper that looked at the life-cycle intragenerational and intergenerational benefits of the Perry Preschool Project, a pioneering high-quality early childhood education program from the 1960s. Based on the dynastic benefits they observed, the economists revised the return on investment of the Perry Preschool Project, now estimating that every $1 invested in the Perry Preschool Project generates $9 in returns to society.

The research makes the proposed federal investments in quality early childhood and care an even smarter decision. Read our

Start Early & Enter Kindergarten Ready to Learn Educare Chicago parent and mother of three, Kapria Robinson, shares why preschool has been integral to her children’s development.

As educators and parents of three young children, Kapria Robinson and her husband know starting early shapes a child’s entire educational journey.

“We wanted to make sure we provided early learning programs for our own children that supported their academic and social emotional skills,” she recalls.

When Kapria toured Educare Chicago, a program of Start Early, she knew she had found the right program for her family.

“Educare’s approach to involving parents in their children’s education journey and constantly getting feedback has been a huge part of why our children are so successful and driven to keep learning,” she says.

Infants & Toddlers = Must Be a Priority A National Movement to Amplify Voices of New Parents & Early Learning and Care Providers

Our country is at its best when we recognize that children, particularly our youngest, and those who care for our children, are our greatest resource. We cannot expect a healthier, more resilient or more prosperous country in the future if we don’t invest in our youngest generation now.

Across the U.S., state and community organizations are collaborating and leading efforts to build effective, local prenatal-to-age 3 systems that support the early childhood workforce and deliver quality programs for infants, toddlers and their families.

In addition to Start Early’s role providing policy counsel to other states in their prenatal-to-age 3 efforts, we are proud to lead the strategic management of Raising Illinois, the Illinois-focused coalition of 200+ members working together to drive policy that prioritizes the state’s infants and toddlers.
