Earlier this year, Republicans jammed through a voting bill that disproportionately affects the elderly, the poor and military voters, to the electoral advantage of Republicans. We knew it all along: this bill had nothing to do with “election integrity” and everything to do with suppressing Democratic votes in 2022 -- and beyond.

Now, the courts have required Republicans to hand over emails and text messages from party insiders involved in the bill’s drafting and passage. In one of the text exchanges, two Republican state legislators admitted that if Floridians were allowed to continue exercising their long-standing right to vote by mail, the GOP would face a “devastating” election in 2022.
One thing is clear: Republicans know they know they cannot win without making it more difficult for people to vote.
If any of this was truly about democracy and the integrity of our elections, lawmakers would be taking the advice of experts. These documents prove that, not only were these laws entirely partisan, but that Republicans were openly colluding to undermine democracy in the state of Florida.
Our elections are not a game. I will fight for the right of every citizen of Florida to have their voice freely and fairly heard in elections, and for every elected official to faithfully and ethically fulfill their responsibility to their constituents.
