Hi there --

Newly disclosed internal documents from Facebook confirm what we have known for a long time: Facebook doesn't care about its impact on our society so long as it makes profits. Between providing a home for white supremacists, fueling the spread of vaccine disinformation, making body issues worse for 1 in 3 teen girls, and allowing drug cartels to use their platform, it’s clear that Facebook is only in it for the money.

But here’s the thing: we can fight back. In 2020, 98% of Facebook’s revenue came from ads that are hyper-targeted at users. Users are the product that Facebook, which owns Instagram and WhatsApp, sells to its customers: advertisers. Facebook is nothing without us; we’re their entire business model.

So we’re doing the thing that will get Facebook’s attention: logging out. We’re joining our partners at Kairos to show the power of Facebook and Instagram users. Take the pledge to log out of Facebook and Instagram on November 10: [[link removed]]

When individuals log off, not only will it affect Facebook’s bottom line, it will show the company that people want change — and we are willing to stop using their platform in order to get it. To halt the endless harm Facebook is causing, we are logging off Instagram and Facebook for a few days in November to undercut what Facebook cares most about: their bottom line.

Click here to take the pledge that you'll be joining the logoff action — and invite others to do the same. [[link removed]]

Together, we can put a short, but powerful stop to Facebook’s toxic business model of surveillance advertising and demand urgent structural reform to the platform.

For those of you who don’t have a Facebook account, don’t worry—you can still sign up. Let’s send a strong and clear message to Mark Zuckerberg.

Appreciate your support,

Nicole
