The Texas Campaign's 10th Annual Symposium begins this Monday and is the place to be for those interested in the latest information on healthy adolescent development and teen pregnancy prevention efforts across Texas. Space is still available for this virtual training opportunity. Our 2021 Webinar Series wraps up this Fall! Each webinar is $25, unless otherwise noted, and includes continuing education credit for multiple disciplines. Scholarships are also available.

The 11th Annual Symposium is scheduled for April 25-26, 2022. We plan on hosting a hybrid learning event, in collaboration with Healthy Futures of Texas, with the in-person component taking place at the Embassy Suites Landmark in San Antonio.

My name is Ámbar Ríos, and I am one of the mental health counselors at the University Health, Robert B. Green Campus in the Teen Health Clinic. I am also the lead for Project Y.E.S., which stands for Youth Empowerment & Support. I have been with UT Teen Health since 2011, and I have seen our program grow in so many ways!

Each month, the Texas Campaign interviews young adults or the adults who serve them about their experience with sex education or teen pregnancy. 

This month, we interviewed Mariana Pasillas from Houston, Texas. She is 27 years old, and was a previous teen mom. She wants to help others by sharing her experience of being a teen mom.

The Texas Campaign is looking for 10 young people between the ages of 17 and 20 to join our Young Ambassador Program. Chosen ambassadors will have the opportunity to participate in training sessions on leadership, becoming an effective advocate, and Texas policies that affect young people and their sexual health education amongst others. They will then take what they have learned and apply it in designing and implementing their very own community advocacy project.

Between the ages of 9 and 13, many other episodes forced her to recognize that she was not equal to boys, that they had more freedom, that some men could be dangerous, and that she was vulnerable.
