John,
Do you have just 1 minute to click through and add your name? Afghan refugees in the U.S. need your action.
Over the last month, the Biden administration evacuated tens of thousands of Afghans to the U.S.
Many of these people and their families aided American agencies as interpreters, professionals, or other support personnel. Others at risk include students, human rights activists, and religious and ethnic minorities.
No matter the reason they fled, they all deserve to be set up for success.
As these Afghan refugees are welcomed by American communities across the country, it is critical that they have the necessary resources and opportunities to transition successfully to their new lives.
That's why the IRC is urging Congress to ensure Afghan refugees are set up for success. Will you join us? Use this link to send an email directly to your members of Congress: https://act.rescue.org/9gENyC7
John, most of these individuals were granted entry to the U.S. under an immigration status known as humanitarian parole, meaning they will not have access to the refugee resettlement services that other refugees in the U.S. do.
Congress has an opportunity to change this. By passing critical legislation that will make evacuees eligible for the same services provided to all other refugees arriving in the U.S., Congress can ensure that Afghans have the tools they need to thrive in their adopted communities. Congress should also give evacuees the same opportunity to adjust to legal permanent residency that other refugees have, helping thousands of people avoid years of wait in legal limbo.
Join us by urging your Members of Congress to include the Biden Administration's request for Afghanistan Evacuation and Resettlement assistance in the upcoming Fiscal Year 2022 Continuing Resolution Appropriations Package, and give our recently arrived neighbors the tools they need to thrive in their new communities.
