Hi John,

Vaccine inequality is a global crisis that claims lives and puts everyone at risk. The UK is sitting on millions of surplus vaccine orders yet across Africa less than 4% of the population have received their shots. This is vaccine apartheid.

On 2 October 2020, South Africa and India proposed that the World Trade Organisation (WTO) agree a temporary suspension of patents on Covid-19 vaccines and treatments. They were joined by over 100 countries, with even the United States eventually backing a vaccine waiver.

But one year on, there is still no waiver. It is a year of wasted opportunity, and wasted lives.
Join our action planning call

A patent waiver would have allowed for expanded production in facilities across the global south. But a handful of governments, including the UK, are still blocking the proposal, putting the profits of big companies ahead of lives.

It’s time to call our government out on this shameful behaviour, and we have a plan.

On 12 October, the evening before the WTO’s intellectual property council meets again, we’re organising a big action in London, and we’d like you to be part of it.

If you think you can, please join our action planning call between 12 noon and 1pm on Saturday 2 October.

We’ll briefly explain the latest developments in the campaign, share our action proposal and work out how everyone can be involved.

Join the call on 2 October
  • Action planning call: 12noon, Saturday 2 October
  • Action: Approx. 5.30pm, Tuesday 12 October, Central London

We appreciate that not everyone will be able to make this action, but if you can, we’d love to see you there, and we’d love to have you join the action planning call.

In solidarity,

Help ensure Covid-19 vaccines are available to everyone, everywhere

It’s vitally important that Covid-19 vaccine patents are suspended during the pandemic, and for big pharma to share their know-how globally, as the best way of ensuring there are enough vaccines for everyone everywhere.

Regular gifts give us the long-term stability to plan effective campaigns and the flexibility to respond to crises like these.
