DHS: Fewer than 3 Percent of People Evacuated from Afghanistan are Special Immigrant Visa Holders

The story notes “Additionally, 7% of them are U.S. citizens, and 6% are lawful permanent residents.”  So that leaves a hefty 84 percent in the mystery category (Yahoo).  From Byron York: The two questions were always: 1) Who did we leave behind? and 2) Who did we bring out? Still no answers (Twitter).

Democrats Worry Biden’s Domestic Agenda is Collapsing

From the story: Myriad problems have arisen. Moderate Senate Democrats Joe Manchin (W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.) continue to be a major headache for party leadership’s $3.5 trillion target. The Senate parliamentarian just nixed the party’s yearslong push to enact broad immigration reform. House members may tank the prescription drugs overhaul the party has run on for years. And a fight continues to brew over Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) push to expand Medicare (Politico). From Ed Morrissey: A trillion here, a trillion there, and sooner or later people start noticing the math doesn’t add up. Enough people have noticed this about Joe Biden’s expansive and expensive domestic agenda to put the entire enterprise on the verge of collapse (Hot Air). From another story: Progressive Democrats, leery of giving up political leverage, have maintained that they won’t vote for the infrastructure bill until the broader $3.5 trillion bill has been passed through Congress. Given the continuing disagreements over its size, it will likely still be weeks before negotiations on that larger bill will be complete, raising the prospect of Democrats voting down one of Mr. Biden’s legislative priorities next week. Top Democrats are now racing to make progress with moderates on the social-welfare legislation and, in turn, make House progressives comfortable with approving the infrastructure legislation. Mr. Schumer met with moderate Democratic senators on Tuesday and said he is hoping to craft a new proposal on the social-welfare bill by next week (WSJ).

White House Aggressively Shoos Press Out After Biden Asked Question

From the story: Reporters faced a bizarre scenario on Tuesday as White House aides shouted down their attempts to ask President Biden questions during an Oval Office meeting. Biden met with U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the White House where the two discussed an array of issues. Johnson took several questions but when Biden as asked questions, White House aides promptly escorted reporters out of the Oval Office (Fox News). Two British reporters got questions in before the sudden demand that they leave the area (NY Post).

The Squad Bullies Democrats into Not Funding Israel’s Iron Dome

From the story: A group of far-left lawmakers — including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) — forced House Democratic leadership Tuesday to cut $1 billion for Israel’s Iron Dome from a short-term government funding bill. Moderate House Democrats slammed their progressive colleagues for their anti-Israel stance, arguing that the Iron Dome is not an offensive weapon but rather a defense mechanism meant to shield civilians from rocket attacks by Islamist militant groups (New York Post). From Rep. Elissa Slotkin: Iron Dome is a purely *defensive* system — it protects civilians when hundreds of rockets are shot at population centers. Whatever your views on the Israeli-Pal conflict, using a system that just saved hundreds, if not thousands, of lives as a political chit is problematic (Twitter). From the Wall Street Journal: Hamas rockets are meant to kill Israeli civilians, but Iron Dome also saves Palestinian lives. When the rocket attacks are futile and Israeli casualties are prevented, there’s less domestic pressure on Israel’s political leaders to escalate their military response. Iron Dome was one big reason the Hamas rocket offensive in the spring did not provoke a costly Israeli ground invasion. The system’s deployment and improvement, with U.S. funding, also helps develop technology that can be used to defend Americans (WSJ).

From McDonalds: Starting now, and phased in across the globe by the end of 2025, our ambition is that every toy sold in a Happy Meal will be sustainable, made from more renewable, recycled, or certified materials like bio-based and plant-derived materials and certified fiber (McDonalds).
