In the previous email we used a word we don't condone.

We messed up John,

At Dream Corps, we strive to use humanizing, people-first language that honors the people impacted by the systems we’re changing. Whether someone has been affected by lack of opportunity in the tech economy, pollution and transit inequities, or the criminal-legal system, we are devoted to lifting and empowering the people we work alongside.

Our email below about efforts to keep people from being sent back to federal prison used the word "inmates". This is a dehumanizing term that we do not condone the use of within our organization, or approve of outside of it.

We deeply apologize for its use in the email, especially to the formerly incarcerated people and their families who power our movement. We can assure you it will not happen again.

Thank you,
— The Dream Corps Team

John,

We just got a big update — the Biden Administration is starting the clemency process for some incarcerated people released to home confinement under the CARES Act. That’s progress, but let’s be clear — it’s nowhere near enough.

The current Biden plan only includes people with drug offenses who have four years or less on their sentences. That still leaves out thousands of people who don’t fit the pick-and-choose criteria the Biden Administration has laid out — people who are back to work, starting school, and reuniting with their families in our own communities right now.

Tell President Biden: Don’t leave thousands of people behind. Commute the sentences of ALL people on home confinement and #KeepThemHome!

Take Action!

Forcing thousands of people to go back to federal prison would devastate families – and do nothing to make our communities any safer. We just sent a letter to President Biden demanding justice for all people on home confinement. We want the President to hear from you too — that’s why we’re asking for your help to get as many signatures as possible and unite our voices together.

President Biden campaigned on criminal justice reform and it’s up to us to hold him accountable to that promise. If the President wants to actually deliver on his promise of justice reform and bringing the country together, commuting the sentences of all 4,000+ people released to home confinement during COVID-19 is the obvious place to start.

TAKE ACTION NOW: Sign our petition to demand President Biden keep families together.Take Action!

Thank you for your support,
— The Dream Corps JUSTICE Team
