With back-to-school season in full swing, teachers and students are facing the uncertainty of returning to in-person learning. They’re also being pulled in multiple directions because irresponsible elected officials have politicized education and health.

Now more than ever, school communities need strong, unwavering support and clear-eyed leadership. That’s why we need women like Emerge Tennessee alum Emily Masters.

Masters is the Metro Nashville School Board Member for District 3, and she is dedicated to students’ long-term learning and well-being. A mom herself, she personally understands the difficult and emotional position that parents are in right now. 

So Masters is combining her empathy, expertise, and deep community awareness to speak up for common sense policies, fight COVID-19 misinformation, and protect students from being exploited in state-level political games. In her district, that means asserting local control and decisively requiring masking in schools, despite a wishy-washy executive order from the state governor. 

Team Emerge trusts our alums to put kids and families first – and to make the best decisions to protect their health and well-being at every turn. So at this time – when school board members across the country are doubling down on bad decisions, promoting conspiracies, and endangering our children – we are so grateful for alums like Emily Masters. 

And we won’t stop working until clear-eyed and community-rooted Democratic women fill the seats from school boards to state houses – but we need your help to get the job done.
