Friend,

Across our country, Republican-led legislatures have introduced and passed more than 400 bills to suppress the vote – and Republican governors in states like Florida, Georgia, and Texas have signed them into law.

At the federal level, the Supreme Court's conservative majority dealt a death blow to the Voting Rights Act, all but green-lighting the GOP's voter suppression and rendering what was once hailed as one of the most effective pieces of legislation ever meaningless.

In the Senate, Republicans have abused the filibuster to block passage of the For The People Act, a sweeping bill that would have set national standards for voting rights and protected citizens from these state-based GOP attacks. In an effort to compromise, Democrats have released a new voting rights bill, the Freedom to Vote Act.

This legislation makes some concessions, but still takes bold steps to strengthen voting rights. If Senate Republicans cannot muster enough filibuster-proof support to get this bill passed into law, then they truly no longer stand on the side of democracy. And if we have elected officials who don't stand with democracy, then we must do what's necessary to circumvent their obstruction and protect our democracy.

That means we must eliminate the filibuster to pass this new legislation that protects voting rights. I know you've spoken out on this issue before, but with new legislation introduced, I'm counting on your voice again. Please submit your response now to apply grassroots pressure in the Senate:

Add your name to support eliminating the filibuster to protect voting rights.

Friend, I wish I could say I was optimistic that my Republican colleagues would join us in protecting voting rights. But remember this: Sen. John Barrasso himself has said he wants to make Joe Biden a "one-half-term president" by taking back Congressional majorities next year. His motivations right now are entirely partisan – and in McConnell's mind, if voter suppression is the pathway to a Republican majority, so be it.

The soul of the Republican Party has been lost to extremism, and the filibuster is their greatest tool to allow the minority of our nation to rule through that extremism. For the sake of our democracy, the filibuster must be eliminated.

Today, I'm asking 750 members of this team – in a massive display of grassroots activism – to speak out. We have legislation that can save voting rights right now if the filibuster were eliminated. So please, before my 11:59 p.m. deadline, make your voice heard:

Add your name to support eliminating the filibuster to protect voting rights.

Thank you,
