Dear Colleagues,
Your WFN global conference is just 48 hours away. The conference sessions, created and selected by you, will feature several key conversations between funders, sponsors, and allies, highlighting concrete actions that we can all take to accelerate gender equity in our own institutions, communities, and countries.
Jennifer Okwudili from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Linda Weisert from Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) will discuss how philanthropy is shifting to effectively meet this pivotal movement. Rise Up Leader Alicia Tauro will share her powerful work to advocate for women and girls in India, highlighting how funders can effectively resource country-based leaders who are leading change.
Learn how Funders for Justice and APPI Women Lead thought-leaders grapple with how to organize women of color within a system that encourages them to utilize police force and incarceration against their families and neighborhoods – while also meaningfully participating in Black, Brown, and immigrant-rights movements where gender-based violence is often silenced and subjugated to so-called racial unity.
In addition, C. Nicole Mason, Ph.D., President and CEO of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR), will join me in conversation that will include an exclusive announcement. Also, for the first time, we’re providing live Spanish and French translations for all plenary sessions.
You can find the full conference program here.
All this useful and exciting content would not be possible if it were not for the generous support of our sponsors and donors like you. As you may know, the WFN conference is not a fundraiser. It is a member-led event held only every other year. As such, it is always highly anticipated, deeply engaging with useful information, and a place where new relationships and collaborations are born. Thanks to your generous contributions we’ve been able to offer a discounted or free ticket to everyone who needed it.
Thank you for joining us and thank you for all you do.
In Solidarity,
Elizabeth Barajas-Román
Women’s Funding Network

At this year's virtual conference, we'll be offering an exclusive opportunity to pre-screen the film Through the Night in partnership with The Acorn Project. This screening is now available to Women Funded 2021: The Feminist Factor conference attendees 72-hours prior to the conference.
Additionally, we are thrilled to announce a special conversation at the conference with Director Loira Limbal. This interactive session will feature women’s funds and grantees on the ground working to solve the childcare crisis in America. Join us to view this important film this week, and the opportunity to connect directly with the director during the conference.
Through the Night is a cinema verité portrait of 3 working NY mothers whose lives intersect at a 24-hour daycare center: a mother working the overnight shift as an essential worker at a hospital; another holding down three jobs to support her family; and a woman who for over 2 decades has cared for the children of parents with nowhere else to turn.

The Fund For Women and Girls: Igniting Change in Chester County says goodbye to its current Executive Director, Michelle Legaspi Sánchez, and announces an Interim Executive Director, Mary Beth Morrissey, to assume the role on September 20, 2021.
In a letter to The Fund’s supporters, partners, and friends, Michelle expressed her gratitude for their support over the past 6 years, 5 as ED: “I am so proud of what we have accomplished together. We have navigated difficulties within the organization while also learning to adapt, respond, and lead in the face of extraordinary challenges in our community and the world around us. It led to the deepening of The Fund’s impact in so many ways, including more opportunities for girls to grow as leaders, more community-centered grantmaking, a louder voice on issues that affect all women and girls, and a stronger organizational presence through vital community partnerships.”

The Institute for Women's Policy Research released a new report, "Lost Jobs, Stalled Progress: The Impact of the “She-Cession” on Equal Pay," which finds the annual gender wage gap for women and men working full-time, year-round narrowed slightly during the pandemic at the same time as the wage gap for all women and men widened because of the disproportionate impact of cutbacks and job losses on women in low-wage jobs.
