John,
I hope your Fall season is starting off well -- I'm reaching out to follow through on my goal to keep everyone looped into the work on the ground. Here's what I've got for everyone this month:
On the trail:
From Greenport to Smithtown and Patchogue to East Hampton -- Kara's been all around the district over the last month, meeting voters and supporting causes she's passionate about. Here are some highlights.
- Kara led a pack of Stony Brook Seawolves in a two-mile clean-up of Route 25A as part of their Community Service Day, showing what it means to do your part and take pride in your community. Read more >>> [link removed]
- Kara kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month -- a month about celebrating the countless contributions Hispanic-Americans have made and continue to make to our country -- at one of the biggest celebrations on Long Island in Patchogue.
- Kara joined members of the community outside of Lee Zeldin's office to call for bold action to address climate change and critical investment in sustainable infrastructure.
- Last week Kara met local business owners at the Three Village Farmers Market. There are only a couple Fridays left where you can pick up everything from local seafood, vegetables, jam, and flowers and support our local businesses.

Fundraising Gap:
There's no reason to beat around the bush here, I'll give it to you straight: We're seriously behind on our quarterly fundraising goal.
The goals and deadlines we set for ourselves aren't arbitrary, they're a part of a long and exhaustive campaign plan that runs all the way through Election Day 2022. If we fall short on our quarterly goals, we'll be forced to reduce the size and scope of essential programs like field organizing, communications staffing, or ad buys.
With just 9 days until the end of the quarter -- we need to sprint to the finish. We don't need to raise it all today, but we do need to make a dent. Can you chip in $5, or whatever you can, to help?

Redistricting:
We know we're not the only ones eager to know what the final form of NY-01 will be for the 2022 cycle, which is why it was disappointing to see New York's Independent Redistricting Commission fail to come to an agreement on a draft map that was due last week. Instead, they proposed two competing maps, which election forecasters quickly dismissed as non-starters:
“In reality, these maps are dead on arrival.” -FiveThirtyEight
“You can pretty much throw these competing NY drafts out.” - Dave Wasserman from Cook Political Report
As we learn more, we will be sure to keep our supporters (you!) up to speed. Until then, we're continuing our hard work to build a grassroots campaign that can finally flip NY-01 and represent Suffolk County's working families in Congress.
