John, the Freedom to Vote Act is our next – and perhaps our last – chance at federal voting rights legislation. That’s why we put together a petition to demand Congress pass this act. We can’t let it die to the filibuster like so many crucial reforms that came before it!

HR 1 was a beacon of hope for voting rights in the aftermath of the 2020 election. But moderate interests in Congress, combined with the undemocratic minority rule of the Filibuster, shot down any chance we had at passing the landmark bill.

But we may have a better shot with the Freedom to Vote Act – introduced by, among others, Senator Joe Manchin. Just check out this coverage from The Atlantic:

The new bill would safeguard the independence of local election officials, criminalize intimidating election workers, and fight back against partisan attempts to overturn votes. And, if passed, it will overrule many of the regressive laws passed by Republicans this year.

We need to stand up for our elections and protect them from far-right partisan interests. And now that Manchin is on board, we may have a real shot. That’s why we’re calling on Congress to pass this bill – and not leave our rights in the hands of far-right state legislatures!
