We The Action Volunteer,

Good morning, and welcome to our weekly digest of current volunteer legal projects.

We have nearly 60 legal projects that need your help:

21+ HOURS

Help Marijuana Justice Org Research & Draft Legislation

Marijuana Justice

Help a marijuana justice organization research and draft specific legislation relating to resentencing and/or ending supervision for people convicted of cannabis-related offenses. This is a remote opportunity, and lawyers can be barred in any state.

1—5 HOURS

Help Terminally-Ill Patient Prepare Advance Directives

I Am ALS

A terminally-ill person with ALS needs help preparing advance directives, power of attorney documentation, a will, and other estate planning. This is a remote opportunity, and lawyers can be barred in any state.

11—20 HOURS

Help Reunite Immigrant Families

Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network

Detained immigrants facing deportation need lawyers to help represent them in bond hearings to remain with their family in the United States. Although this project is based in Colorado, this is a remote opportunity and lawyers from any state are welcome to volunteer.

11—20 HOURS

Help Advance Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Government

Inclusive America

An organization promoting diversity in government needs help reviewing previous Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and developing a template for recommendations. This is a remote opportunity, and lawyers can be barred in any state, though volunteers must have experience in federal legislative advocacy.

11—20 HOURS

Help Protect Immigrants from Deportation

Mississippi Center for Justice

Following mass raids by ICE, hundreds of immigrants are currently detained and need help avoiding deportation. This remote project is only available to Spanish-speaking lawyers or those who have access to translation services, but those lawyers can be based in any state.

11—20 HOURS

Help a Trans Woman Stay in the Country

Trans Empowerment Project

Help an immigrant trans woman, who is married to an American citizen, avoid deportation and navigate an immigration system that has thus far denied her citizenship. This is a remote opportunity, and lawyers from any state are welcome to volunteer.

We hope you and your loved ones are healthy and safe.

Best,
The We The Action Team
