Parking enforcement and appeals statistics 

London Councils has published data on parking enforcement and appeals in London for the 2018/19 financial year.

The figures show London boroughs and TfL issued 5,958,048 penalty charge notices (PCNs) to motorists who they believed had contravened regulations in 2018/19, a 6 per cent increase from last year.

Cllr Julian Bell, Chair of London Councils' Transport and Environment Committee, said: ( [link removed] ) “Around 9.6 million trips are made in London by car, taxi or private hire vehicle each day. Traffic and parking management provided by London’s boroughs and TfL helps make these journeys safer and healthier for everyone in London.

"It is encouraging that in several cases, enforcement is leading to positive behaviour change among road users, which benefits everyone who travels in and around our capital city."

Boroughs unite to beat County Lines gangs

Almost 700 children and young people – some as young as 11 years-old have been referred to Rescue and Response, a new pan-London programme tackling County Lines.This includes 21 rescues from County Lines in coastal towns.

The figures were revealed at London Councils’ latest Learning Hub on Serious Youth Violence which shares intelligence and strategies across all of London’s 32 boroughs on how best to beat the organised crime networks that groom and manipulate children into transporting drugs across the country.

Cllr Nickie Aiken, London Councils’ Executive member for Schools and Children's Services, said ( [link removed] ) ( [link removed] ):“The complexity of County Lines makes it crucial that local authorities work together to combat this acute problem. This Learning Hub is helping to turbocharge our efforts by bringing together police and councils to share how they can best tackle this epidemic.”

Emissions reduction bill

London’s local authorities could get tough new powers to tackle air pollution caused by boilers, construction machinery and diesel generators through an Emissions Reduction Act.

The proposals, drawn up by the City of London Corporation and backed by London Councils, were introduced as the Emissions Reduction (Local Authorities in London) Bill in the House of Lords yesterday [Tuesday 22 October] by Lord Tope, Liberal Democrat Peer and Co-President of London Councils.
