Our communities are facing more than a moratorium ending — we face a continuation of lack of local and federal funding in an eviction crisis while we’re navigating a global pandemic.
Some RTTC member groups see long term solutions such as TOPA (Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act) campaigns, Community Land Trusts, and other alternatives to liberate land. Some RTTC members see short term solutions like renters self-attestation for documenting household eligibility for federal relief because of realities like Billions In Federal Rental Aid Sit Unspent By Local Governments [[link removed]] . Right to the City's Executive Organizing Committee has been meeting to analyze the moment and sharpen our response and strategy on a national level. Stay tuned for resources soon!
Our alliance of member organizations have continued to speak out against public officials who are not prioritizing the needs of directly impacted communities from local to state to national levels. Member organizations have been holding rallies, filing lawsuits against their city [[link removed]] , and shutting down court — all amidst shifting conditions of climate disasters and public health policies impacting an already unprecedented housing crisis. ONE DC, from Washington DC, held space to commemorate Black August and recently demystified common myths of the guaranteed income [[link removed]] . Chainbreaker Collective, from Santa Fe, Mexico held a report release press conference to ask for innovative programs to resolve the housing crisis. They then pointed to the $46.5 billion budgeted for rent relief as the solution — renters have only received less than 11% in stimulus aid [[link removed]] . And last week, BASTA, in Austin, Texas, held a virtual workshop [[link removed]] to support families navigate applications for rental assistance.
