Sacramento DSA's 2021 Local Convention

Comrades! Our annual local convention is coming up this November 20, 2021. The Local Convention will substitute for our regularly scheduled General Membership Meeting for the month of November. Each year we are mandated by our bylaws to review chapter priorities and provide an opportunity for our general membership to assess our bylaw structure and officer duties.

Here are the convention rules:
You can register for the local convention at this link:
Pursuant to these rules, no motions to introduce bylaw amendments, convention resolutions, or amendments to either will be allowed on the floor of the convention. All bylaw amendments, convention resolutions, and amendments to bylaw amendments/convention resolutions must be submitted prior to the convention to allow for timely constructive dialogue in anticipation of the convention.

Submit bylaw amendments or convention resolutions here: https://forms.gle/aUReYGnJSYuat3FLA

Submissions close after 11:59PM, October 20th, 2021. For reference, here is what passed at last year's local convention. Proposals will be announced at the October General Membership Meeting upon which motions to amend proposals (bylaw amendments or convention resolutions) will be open soon after.

Right now, Democrats in the House and the Senate are negotiating our future. The reconciliation bill, which will be voted on by the end of the month, will be the last opportunity this year for Congress to act on climate change. With powerful hurricanes flooding the East and fires and drought ravaging the West, investing in a green future has never been more urgent.

That’s why DSA is campaigning for the Green New Deal for Public Schools Act. The bill, whose funding must be secured in reconciliation, would invest $1.43 trillion in our public schools. This money will be used to update old infrastructure and create sustainable, carbon-free, and climate resilient school buildings. With investment focused on under-funded black and brown communities, this bill will bring thousands of teaching and construction jobs to areas that have been neglected by neoliberal austerity.

We need your help to pass this bill. With time running out in Congress, we need to mobilize our communities to pressure our Representatives, Doris Matsui and Ami Bera, to support this transformative legislation. Here’s what you can do to help:

  1. Sign our petition to Matsui and Bera: https://bit.ly/sacgnd4ps
  2. Talk to your friends, family, and coworkers and get them to sign, too.
  3. Volunteer! We will be phonebanking, tabling, texting, and more to spread the word. Check the box on the petition to hear about opportunities or email Seth Strumwasser at [email protected].
