"HCBS funding allows me to live and LOVE life with autism and other disabilities." - Adria N., Indiana Advocacy Ambassador
People with autism and the families that support them rely on a range of options through their life spans to live, remain safe and participate in their communities. A majority of these lifelong supports are funded by Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS). Right now, Congress is working on a budget reconciliation bill which includes some level of additional funding for HCBS, but a bigger investment will have a greater impact. Lend your voice to help ensure that these funding decisions meet the needs of people with autism.
HCBS provide a wide array of supports – like day programs and residential services – that many autistic people and their families rely on throughout their lifespan. Yet, capacity issues, both prior to and during the pandemic, have made it difficult for autistic individuals and their families to access high-quality, individualized, community-based services. Absent additional funds, state Medicaid programs will not be able to meet the needs of families and autistic individuals who need support now more than ever.
To ensure the infrastructure is in place to provide high-quality HCBS for all autistic individuals who require them, we need you to ask Congress to invest in HCBS. Your advocacy will help the thousands of people like Adria who rely on and benefit from these services every day!
