The upcoming election for governor in Virginia will have major implications for next year’s national midterms. A bellwether for the national political climate, Virginia has long been crucial in proving the popularity of progressive policies and the national shift towards a more progressive electorate.

With the midterms right around the corner, we need to make sure to turn out every progressive vote possible this year. It’s vital not only for ensuring that our values continue to be represented at the highest level of the Commonwealth’s government, but also for turning back the extreme far-right tide of Trumpism that is swarming through other state legislatures.
If recent polling is any indication, it’s this kind of voter outreach that’s going to be CRUCIAL to progressive victories up and down the ballot in 2021. A new poll from Emerson College puts Democrat Terry McAuliffe’s lead at just 4% over his Trump Republican opponent, Glenn Youngkin – stressing just how important voter outreach is going to be in the weeks ahead.[1]
