Friend,
This pandemic is not over. Due to virus mutations, many states have seen the deadliest days of this pandemic in just the past few weeks. Hospitals across the country are at capacity, and all of our health care workers are feeling the strain after 18 months of nearly nonstop hard work. We should all be grateful for their heroic dedication.
Here in Washington State, some long-term care facilities are having COVID-19 outbreaks, and ICU beds in our local hospitals are nearing capacity. I have been monitoring the situation in our district and remain in constant communication with local health officials. I'm also working hard in Congress to secure the resources needed to support communities impacted by COVID-19 in our district and around the nation.
As of today, over 670,000 Americans have lost their lives to COVID-19 -- including over 7,000 Washingtonians. Sadly 1 in every 500 Americans has now died from COVID-19. I hope you will join me in taking a moment to pause and recognize this tremendous loss of life.
The virus has changed the fabric of our communities -- including the businesses we see when we walk down the street. It's even impacted our relationships with our neighbors. It's been a long battle, but each of us needs to continue to do our part -- to support our local businesses, to help our local social service organizations that are keeping people fed and housed, and to support those who need a helping hand.
Team, it's clearer than ever before that getting out of this pandemic is going to take all of us. We are all in this together. Our interconnected lives and communities mean our health and our fates are interconnected as well. No community can fully recover until all communities have recovered.
It's an honor to represent you,
Derek
