As you may have seen, the Senate parliamentarian just ruled on the first proposal submitted to her allowing for a pathway to citizenship through reconciliation. While this wasn’t the news many of us had hoped for, it is also not cause for alarm.

As we have said all along, this was always likely a multi-step process where we expect Senate leadership to present multiple options for the parliamentarian to consider. We remain confident that adjustment of status can and will be done via reconciliation. Since the parliamentarian’s first ruling late last night, the White House and Senate Democratic leadership have issued statements indicating that they will be presenting additional options for consideration by the parliamentarian in the coming days.

In the meantime, please continue urging your senator to keep pushing for a pathway to citizenship via reconciliation. Call now.

Given the clear and substantial budgetary and economic impact, we believe that critical immigration provisions protecting the undocumented will be passed into law in the reconciliation package.

This is the year.
