Advocacy Tell your member of Congress: Support the Do No Harm Act Our country was founded on the principle of religious freedom, a tradition and ideal that remains central to who we are today. Religious freedom means that everyone should be able to practice their religion or no religion at all, so long as they do not harm others. The Do No Harm Act restores the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA--enacted in 1993) to its original intent: protecting religious freedom, while also clarifying that it may not be used to harm others. RFRA is being manipulated to allow discrimination against LGBTQ+ people, women, religious minorities, non-theists, and almost anyone else--all under the guise of religious freedom. The Do No Harm Act will stop this misuse. On February 25, Rep. Bobby Scott reintroduced H.R. 1378 with lead cosponsors, Reps. Steve Cohen, Jamie Raskin, and Mary Gay Scanlon. The bill currently has 138 cosponsors. Then, last week on September 15, Sen. Cory Booker reintroduced the Do No Harm Act in the Senate with 29 original cosponsors. Now it's time to take action: Tell your members of Congress to support this important bill. Or, if they've already signed on, thank them for their support. Take action now! |
