On Monday, the World Bank published a disturbing report predicting that 216 million people worldwide could be displaced and become climate refugees within the next 30 years unless we take aggressive action to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.

That’s a frightening statistic, backed up by solid scientific evidence. Unfortunately, too many of my colleagues in Congress will not heed this warning. They are so beholden to the fossil fuel industry that they can’t bring themselves to do the right thing - even with our planet and most of its inhabitants in peril.

Right now, Congress is working on the $3.5 trillion Build Back Better Act, which includes urgently needed climate reforms. We simply can’t allow it to get watered down—or completely crushed—by lawmakers who are afraid to ruffle the feathers of Big Oil and other special interests.

We have to act, John. Will you sign our petition demanding a bold response to the climate crisis? We are running out of time to preserve a livable planet, so we must make our voices heard right now.

No question about it, this is a make-or-break moment. Look around at what’s going on right here in the American West, and you’ll see how climate change is destroying communities and livelihoods with raging wildfires and extreme droughts.

On the other side of the nation and across the globe, there are intense hurricanes, out-of-control fires in Greece, crippling drought in sub-Saharan Africa, and catastrophic floods in Germany. Our planet is in crisis.

The stakes are too high to let members of Congress bury their heads in the sand or shil for Big Oil by claiming we can’t afford to act. The truth is, we can’t afford NOT to act. Our very existence and the fate of the only planet we have is at risk.
