Recently, I joined my fellow progressives to call on President Biden to appoint a new Federal Reserve Chair. We need a Chair who will take aggressive action to eliminate climate risk and advance racial and economic justice — and that person is not Jerome Powell.
It won’t be easy to pressure President Biden to reimagine the Fed under new leadership. It will require a grassroots movement working inside and outside of Congress to spread the word about the role of the Fed and what a climate champion in this position could achieve.
But we’re on our way. Last week, 350.org delivered 50,000 petition signatures to the White House calling on President Biden to replace Jerome Powell.
President Biden is set to announce the next Fed Chair any day now, and we need your help to amplify the pressure on the administration to appoint a climate champion as the next chair of the Federal Reserve:
At a time when the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is warning of the potential catastrophic and irreversible damage inflicted by a changing climate, we need a leader at the helm who will take bold and decisive action to eliminate climate risk. Not next week, not next month. Now.
