Your contribution will be matched! No images? Click here John, While 2021 may not be the year of a high-stakes presidential election, it is still a crucial election year for your local government. The candidates on the ballot for county councils, school districts, and port commissioners this November will determine the future of environmental policies in your neighborhood. This year there are critical races across Washington in Whatcom, Kitsap, Franklin, Pierce and Snohomish county that will impact our ability to center environmental justice, take bold climate action, prioritize clean water and healthy forests, and protect workers. The decisions made at the local level have a ripple affect across the state. Bold environmental actions made in one county can be replicated in others throughout Washington. Since local elections don’t receive as much coverage as big election years, voter turnout is often lower. Environmental champions often win or lose a race by a few hundred votes or less. Voting access also affects turnout, and we are working with our partners to dismantle barriers to voting across the state. Every vote environmental champions receive can have a larger impact in local elections and gets them closer to winning. The steps we take now with your support could make the difference in the elections this November. WCV has been working hard this election season to make sure your environmental values become political priorities. Your support will ensure that we can have an impact on this year’s local elections. Give now and your gift will have a real impact on the future of Washington’s environment. Sincerely, Griffin Smith |
