Team:

This morning, the occupant of the White House compared the Constitutionally-mandated impeachment inquiry into his administration to “a lynching.”

Then this afternoon, Senator Lindsey Graham defended the bigoted, racist comparison, saying that the impeachment inquiry “is a lynching in every sense.”

We hope you’ll take a moment to read Ayanna’s email from this morning about these hateful, inflammatory comments, and then make a contribution to our movement for racial justice.

Original message from Ayanna Pressley:

Team,

I hadn’t even had my morning coffee yet when I saw the occupant of the White House, the bigoted man who called for the execution of the exonerated 5, tossing the word ‘lynching’ around »

Donald J. Trump:
So some day, if a Democrat becomes President and the Republicans win the House, even by a tiny margin, they can impeach the President, without due process or fairness or any legal rights. All Republicans must remember what they are witnessing here - a lynching. But we will WIN!

It's predictable that the Occupant of the White House — who has so routinely belittled and attacked communities of color — would think it appropriate to draw a parallel between Congress doing its constitutional duty and horrific acts of violence committed in the name of white supremacy.

His use of this term wasn’t an accident or a mistake — it was a transparent attempt to distract from the corruption plaguing his Administration by fanning the flames of racism and hatred, further fueling the rise of white nationalism in the United States.

From the auction block to reconstruction, from Jim Crow to our current system of mass incarceration and police brutality, Black and Brown people have been threatened just for showing up in the world. It was only LAST YEAR that Congress passed legislation to make lynching a federal crime.

I will continue to use my platform to speak out against the occupant of the White House’s racism and hatred, while working to dismantle the systems of oppression that still threaten Black and Brown people today.

Stand with me right now in fighting Trump’s blatant racism and white nationalism by making a contribution to our movement for racial justice today.

We must unequivocally condemn Trump’s call back to a legacy of racial violence, and hold him accountable for stoking the flames of hatred and white nationalism in our country.

Thank you for standing with me today. Together, we will continue to fight for justice.

In Solidarity,
Rep. Ayanna Pressley
