Every call makes a difference for state level candidates, and this year in Virginia is crucial. Democrats there have expanded Medicaid, declared Election Day a holiday, enacted gun control laws, banned the gay/trans panic defense, expanded voting rights, and more - but losing the majority in the House of Delegates could undo all of those gains for Commonwealth residents. Early voting started last Friday (9/17), and Republicans are heavily targeting Josh's seat. So with less than two months until election day, phonebankers are more crucial than ever!

Why Phonebanking?

Phonebanking is our best remote volunteering option for voter contact. We identify supporters, find and speak with undecided voters, tidy campaign data for voter targeting, and recruit local volunteers. That's why we have been showing up virtually every Wednesday evening since June to help campaigns make calls! All voter engagement tactics are important, but data and experience tells us that phone-banking to clean lists and have actual conversations with voters are far and away the most important thing that organizers and volunteers can do - especially during a pandemic when it may be harder to door-knock.

What to Expect?

Each virtual phonebank over Zoom includes training for new phonebankers at the start of the phonebank (returning callers can jump right into making calls), and check-ins mid-way through and at the end. We'll share successes and address questions throughout via the chat box. Veteran phonebank leaders help you get comfortable, increase your effectiveness, and make sure you have a great experience. Every call counts - we and the campaigns appreciate you turning up to do the hard ?work that is the backbone of election organizing!
